In 1860, is the birth of the later founder of Edox, Christian Ruefli-Flury.10 years later, Christian starts watchmaking apprenticeship. And finally, in 1884, Flury decides to create his own watch company : Edox, which means in ancient Greek “measuring of time”.
From 1955, is the start of the growing of the company. Edox at the time employed around 500 watchmakers which led them to move to new, modern and larger production facilities and being amongst Switzerland’s leading companies.
After this era was the start of the international face of the company. In 1961, Edox creates a new product “Delfin” who broke many records especially in a water resistance domain. In 1969, Edox launches the “Bluebird” which has scratch resistant case and glass and was built with double-backed case and shock absorbers. In 1970, the company introduced the first watch ever to cover all time zones which was called after its unique feature “Geoscope”.
In 1998, Edox broke the world record of the slimmest calendar watch with the “Les Bémonts Ultra Slim” collection which had a movement of only 1.4 mm thick. In 2005, Edox continues with its achievements by creating g the 5 minute repeater.
In 2019, Edox celebrates its 135 year anniversary.
