Description
Panerai was founded in 1860 in Florence, Italy by Giovanni Panerai. Originally a watch shop and workshop, it became famous for supplying precision instruments and dive watches to the Italian Navy in the 1930s and 1940s. Iconic models like the Radiomir and Luminor were developed for underwater missions, featuring patented luminescent materials for visibility. In the 1990s, Panerai transitioned into the luxury market, and today it blends naval heritage, bold Italian design, and Swiss watchmaking expertise.
The Radiomir 1940 recalls Panerai’s evolution from the original Radiomir (1936) with wire lugs to a sturdier case design introduced in the 1940s. Built for combat divers, it combined rugged durability with unmatched underwater legibility. Today, it stands as a refined reinterpretation of that wartime classic, offering collectors a piece of Panerai’s naval legacy.
