OW P-104 Selectron

The OW P-104 Selectron is a contemporary Swiss mechanical watch that revives the spirit of Ollech & Wajs’ historic “wrist computer.” It is built around a robust stainless-steel case with 300 meters of water resistance and powered by the Soprod Newton automatic movement. Its defining feature is the bi-directional logarithmic bezel, which allows the wearer to perform calculations such as conversions, ratios, and multiplications without electricity or batteries. This makes it both a professional tool and a collector’s piece, blending vintage ingenuity with modern reliability.

Description

The model traces its lineage back to 1969, when Ollech & Wajs introduced the Selectron Calculator Ref. 004. That watch was supplied to General Electric and used by aerospace engineers and test pilots at a time when electronic calculators were not yet widely available. The Selectron was conceived as a practical instrument, a mechanical solution to complex calculations in demanding environments. The modern P-104 Selectron pays homage to that heritage, retaining the slide-rule bezel functionality while upgrading the movement, case construction, and diving specifications to meet contemporary standards.

Ollech & Wajs as a brand was founded in Zurich in 1956 by Joseph Ollech and Albert Wajs. Initially, the company sold watches from other Swiss makers before focusing on its own line of rugged, military-inspired timepieces. By the 1960s and 1970s, OW had become well known among soldiers, divers, and engineers, with its watches distributed through mail order and military PX stores. They were worn in Vietnam, used by NASA scientists, and trusted by professionals in extreme conditions. Unlike many Swiss brands, Ollech & Wajs resisted the quartz wave, maintaining a focus on mechanical tool watches. Today, the company continues to honor its origins by producing robust, purpose-driven watches that combine historical authenticity with modern engineering.
